BambooHR

Subdomain

Enabling BambooHR requires a Subdomain – the unique part of your BambooHR URL. For example, if your URL is thrive.bamboohr.com, enter thrive.

Allow Users to Book Time Off

BambooHR needs some extra setup before your users can book time off from the Time Off widget. Until it's done, only BambooHR admins can book time off via the widget.

BambooHR's built-in employee access levels don't have enough permissions to request time off through Thrive. To enable booking, create a Custom Access Level that mirrors your existing employee access level, with elevated Time Off permissions.

Creating a Custom Access Level

Note:

If your users are already on a custom access level, you don't need to create a new one. Edit the existing level and follow from step 4 below.

  1. In BambooHR, go to Settings > Access Levels, then click the + dropdown and select Custom Access Level.

Access levels settings for employees, managers, and custom permissions in BambooHR interface.

  2. Enter an Access Level Name and a Description. We recommend using the description to explain what the level is for and why it exists – for example, Allow employees to book time off through Thrive.

Form for creating a new custom access level for employee time off.

  3. Click Next Step.

  4. In What this Access Level Can Do, leave everything unchecked. These are admin permissions and aren't needed. Click Next Step.

Access level customization options for company files and permissions settings.

  5. In What this Access Level Can See, go to Time Off > Active Time Off Categories and change each category from No Access to Edit.

Overview of time off categories including annual leave, bereavement, and parental leave.

    Note:

Users can only book time off for the time off policies they've been assigned to. This setting doesn't change which policies they can use.

  6. Click Save & Finish.

  7. In Add Employees, add your employees to the new access level. To add them all at once, click ».

Interface for adding employees to time off requests with selected and available lists.

  8. Click Done.

Enablement

Once your users have the Edit Time Off permission, go back to Thrive and turn on Allow users to book time off in Hub Configuration.

Note:

Users who connected the Time Off widget before this change will need to reconnect it before they can book time off. In the widget menu, click Log out, then click Sign in with BambooHR.
