AI Assistant: Capabilities and Data Privacy

Prev Next

This article provides an overview of what the Thrive AI Assistant (Kiki) can access and how it handles your data. It covers the content types it can read, its current limitations, how it handles reduced motion, and how your organisation's data is stored and protected.

Enhanced Learner Profile Context

Enhanced Learner Profile Context allows the AI Assistant to gain a deeper understanding of each learner. This enables the Assistant to provide support that is more relevant, personalised, and effective.

The AI Assistant can access key details to tailor its guidance, including:

  • Role: Understands the learner’s position in the organisation.

  • Skills: Recognises a learner's strengths and areas to develop.

  • Topics: Knows what the learner is actively exploring.

  • Goals: Understands what the learner is aiming to achieve.

Data Privacy and Security

  • Data Isolation: With the AI Assistant, user input is processed within the Thrive platform to generate an optimised prompt. This prompt is then sent to the AI provider’s LLM, which returns a response.

  • Model Training: Customer data is never used to train our AI partners’ models. This is contractually guaranteed under our agreements with both providers.

  • Data Retention: Data processed through the AI Assistant follows the same retention policies as the rest of the Thrive platform, meaning it is retained only for the duration of the relevant contractual agreement. User inputs are stored in the same way as other user data within the platform. As above, we have contractual guarantees with our AI partners ensuring that no customer data is ever used for model training or retained beyond the necessary operational period.

  • Privacy and Security: The AI Assistant is built with the same security architecture and strict controls as the rest of the Thrive platform. It operates under our established security framework and is fully covered by our SOC 2 and ISO 27001 compliance. Our selected AI partners offer incredibly strong security and compliance programs allowing us to offer these features to customers with complete peace of mind.

Animation and Reduced Motion

Previously, the AI Assistant included a continuous spinning donut animation that could not be paused, stopped, or hidden, and ran indefinitely.

The animation now respects your device's operating system preferences. If you have "Reduced Motion" or a similar accessibility setting enabled in your system preferences, the animation will be removed entirely or displayed as a static image.

To enable Reduced Motion on your operating system:

Operating System

Path to Setting

Windows 11

Accessibility > Visual Effects > Animation Effects

Windows 10

Settings > Ease of Access > Display > Show animations in Windows

Windows 7 and 8

Control Panel > Ease of Access > Make the computer easier to see > Turn off all unnecessary animations (when possible)

macOS

System Preferences > Accessibility > Display > Reduce motion

iOS

Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce Motion

Android 9+

Settings > Accessibility > Remove animations

Kiki as an Analyst

Kiki can now access your platform's analytics data. Ask Kiki questions about learner engagement, completions, and skill progress to get insights directly in the conversation.

Current Limitations

Kiki is focused on helping each learner find and engage with relevant learning content. To set clear expectations:

  • Currently no support for PDFs created in the AI Content Creator (also known as “Mixed Content”). This feature is coming soon.

  • No knowledge of events beyond their title/description.

  • No access to campaigns or other user activity in Thrive.

  • No ability to retrieve knowledge from videos without transcripts.

  • No “action-taking” (for example, creating support tickets, editing content).
