This article explains what tags are and how to use them effectively. Tags improve content discovery and recommendations by categorising content, making it easier for users to search and find what matters to them.
Tags play a key role on the Explore page. The front page displays your primary tags, allowing you to categorise content for easier discovery and organisation.
For example, clicking a primary tag like “Air Pods”:
Displays the subcategory or secondary tag:
We now see all content tagged with "Air Pods" (primary tag) and "Apple Products" (secondary tag):
You can see these tags displayed on the content here:
Another key area where tags play a significant role is during a new user's profile setup. When creating their profile, users are required to select at least three skills and topics:
Skills – Areas the user wants to develop
Topics – Subjects the user is interested in
Users can add more skills at any time by clicking the Add Skill button within their Learn profile.
Another area where tags play a significant role is in the homepage blocks. For example, the Recommended block displays content that is tagged with the skills you've added to your profile. This helps tailor the content shown to you, ensuring that the recommendations are relevant to your learning goals and interests.
As an Admin, you can manage tags through the Dashboard by clicking into Tags.
This will show you all the tags created on your platform along with useful information such as the tag type, skill or topic, how many pieces of content are tagged with that specific tag, whether that tag is endorsed and also how many people have that tag as a goal on their profile.
You can create new tags by clicking on Create Tag.
Here, you can name your tag, select whether it is a Skill or Topic, and endorse the tag. Additionally, you can add translations if you have users who speak different languages, assign it to a collection (either Level 1 or Level 2), and upload a thumbnail image (which will appear on your Explore page).
