Create it yourself takes you to the block-by-block content builder in Content Creator. It gives you full creative control over your learning content, so you can build bespoke layouts and sequence your materials exactly how you want.
Getting Started
On the Thrive menu, click Create.
In the Content Creator area, click Create it yourself.
You'll be taken to the editor, where you can build your content from scratch.

Using the Editor
Give your content a Page title. This is required, and it's shown to learners once the content is published. You can also add an optional description underneath.
When you first open the editor, a Build your content prompt appears with an + Add layout bar underneath. Click it to start shaping your page with a layout, or choose a block type from the panel on the left. The following block types are available:
Layouts: Choose a pre-built structure or template to organise your blocks. See Choosing a Layout below.
Text: Add a plain text block, or generate one with AI. See Generating Content With AI below.
Media: Add an image, audio, or video, or generate an image with AI.
Interactive: Add an E-Learning package, a Flipcard, or a Magic block. See Adding Interactive Content below.
File: Add a PDF or a general file.
Quiz: Add a quiz manually, or auto-generate one with AI. See Adding Quizzes and Assessments below.
Assessment: Add an Observed Assessment.
Link: Add a link to an external site, or a Content Link to another piece of Thrive content.
Embed: Add embedded external content.
HTML: Add a Custom HTML Block.
Once you've added a block, use the toolbar in its top corner to manage it: drag the handle (⠿), or click the up and down arrows, to reorder it; click the layout (⊞), copy (⧉), or bin icon (🗑) on the right to change its layout, duplicate it, or delete it.
Choosing a Layout
Click Layouts to open the layout picker. You can choose from two types of layout:
Empty column structures to drop blocks into, such as Full width, Two columns, Wide + narrow, Narrow + wide, Three columns, and Four columns.
Pre-populated combinations of blocks, such as Hero (a full-width image with an intro) and Media + text (a video beside copy).
Generating Content With AI
Content Creator's AI tools are built directly into the relevant block, so you don't need to leave the editor to use them:
Click Text or Media, then choose the Create with AI option for the content you want (such as Text · Write with AI).
In the modal, describe what you’d like to generate.
For a video, you can also add what to Exclude from the video, and choose a Video orientation: Landscape (16:9 ratio) or Portrait (9:16 ratio).
Click Generate.
Your AI-generated content appears as a new block while it's generating. Click Delete block (🗑) if you’re not satisfied with the result.
Note:
AI text generation is powered by OpenAI, and AI image generation is powered by Gemini. Responses may contain inaccurate information, so always check anything AI-generated before you publish.
Adding Interactive Content
Click Interactive to add one of the following:
E-Learning: Upload a SCORM package (zip, x-zip, or x-zip compressed, up to 1 GB). You can edit the title, description, and thumbnail once it's uploaded.
Flipcard: Add an interactive card. Enter your question on the front and your answer on the back. Learners tap the card to flip between them.
Magic: Describe an interactive experience – a quiz, flashcards, a sorting game, a scenario, or a timeline – and Thrive generates it from your prompt. For more information, see Magic Blocks.
Adding Quizzes and Assessments
Quizzes test learner understanding with multiple-choice questions. Click Quiz to add one manually, or choose Quiz · Auto generate to create one with AI. Click + Add another question to add more questions, and set the number of correct answers needed to pass.
Assessments let a manager or audience manager formally verify a learner's practical, on-the-job skills. Click Assessment, give it a title, and choose an assessment type.
Note:
Currently, Observed Assessment is the only type available: use it for workplace evaluations and demonstrations of practical skills, where direct observation is needed to confirm competence.
Preview and Publish
Use the toolbar at the top of the editor to manage your content:
Preview: See how your content will look to a learner/
Translations: Preview and edit auto-translated versions of your content. See Translations below.
Publish…: Opens the Time to publish modal (see Publishing below). Click the arrow (⌄) next to it to save your draft or delete the content.
Translations
Text in your content is auto-translated for learners, but files aren’t. Use Translations to switch to another language, refine the translated text, and upload your own translated files.
Click Translations in the toolbar.
Use Search Languages, or choose a language from the Auto translated list. The Original language is shown separately, so you can jump back to the source content at any time.
Selecting a language opens it in the editor. From here you can:
Edit the text. Change any block's text directly, just as you would in the original language.
Upload a translated file. File-based blocks – audio, images, videos, PDFs, documents, links, and .zip or .7z files – let you upload a version of the file for that language. Prepare the translated file yourself, then upload it in place of the original.
Learners see the file you've uploaded for their language. Where you haven't uploaded one, they see the file from the original language, untranslated.
Note:
Interactive blocks don't support translated files.
When you're happy with a translation, you can click Endorse translation to mark it as reviewed. Learners will then see it as an endorsed translation.
Publishing
In the Time to publish modal, work through the following steps before your content goes live:
Publishing as: Choose to Publish as yourself or Publish as a collaboration.
Thumbnail: Required. Upload a custom image, generate one with AI, or choose a suggested image.
Visibility & Share: Choose Limited Access (specific groups or users) or Public (everyone). For Limited Access, add people or audiences, or your content stays visible only to you. Then choose whether to Allow sharing to anyone or Restrict sharing to admins and authors.
Skills & Topics: Apply Skills and Topics so your content appears in relevant sections of the Thrive platform.
Endorsement & CPD: Mark your content as officially approved and, if relevant, select a CPD Category.
Configuration: Choose Complete on view or Confirm accept and understand (the learner must confirm they've read it). Adjust the estimated completion time if necessary and toggle Enable comments.
Once you're happy with everything, click Publish.
