Chat is an in-app 1:1 messaging available for all users – a simple, secure way to communicate directly inside the platform without switching to email or an external tool.
Conversations persist over time, so users can pick up where they left off, revisit past discussions, and maintain continuity across weeks or months. Chat is available to everyone on Thrive, and messages are tied to user profiles, keeping everything connected to the platform experience.
Using Chat
You can start a conversation with any Thrive user in your organisation directly from the chat icon in the Thrive menu.
To send a message:
Click the chat icon in the Thrive menu.

Click Send Message to search for the user you want to message by their name.
Select the person from the results.
Type your message and press Enter to send.

Your conversation is saved automatically. You can return to it at any time - messages persist across sessions, so you can pick up where you left off.
To delete a message:
Click the ellipsis next to the message.
Click Delete message.

To view a user's profile from a conversation:
Select the View Profile by the user's name at the top of the conversation to open their profile.

To start a new direct message:
Select the message icon on the left of the screen to go back to the Messages screen and start a new conversation.

To search your existing conversations:
On the Messages screen, use the Search Chats bar to find an open conversation by name.
Note:
Messages can be deleted but not edited.
Emojis are supported - select the emoji icon in the message bar to browse and add them.
Each message includes a timestamp so you can track when it was sent.
Other ways to use Chat
Chat isn't limited to mentoring - it's useful across a range of everyday workplace scenarios:
Learning and development: Learners can ask questions about content without leaving the platform, and colleagues can discuss shared learning paths or content packs together.
Onboarding: New starters can reach out to buddies or HR contacts directly, and share progress updates between formal onboarding touchpoints.
Collaboration: Teams working on shared goals can coordinate without switching tools, and employees can reach internal subject matter experts quickly.
Programme management: Admins can message participants directly with updates, and have quick back-and-forth conversations without relying on email.
Privacy
Chat is a private, 1:1 conversation between two users. Messages are tied to user profiles and are only visible to the participants in that conversation.
If a user is deleted or deactivated, the conversation will be hidden from the other participant. Message history will be retained and restored once a deactivated user state is introduced.
Messages can be deleted by the sender at any time but cannot be edited once sent.
Chat is not moderated by administrators. Conversations are private to the participants involved.
