The Magic block lets you build an interactive learning experience – a quiz, a sorting game, a branching scenario, or a timeline – by describing it in plain language. Thrive generates the interaction, shows it in a preview, and you can refine it with follow-up prompts or edit the code yourself.
Note:
Magic blocks are AI generated. Responses may contain inaccurate information, so always check the content and test the interaction before you publish.
What You Can Build
Magic blocks are self-contained interactions that run in the browser. There are five types:
Quiz: Multiple choice questions with instant feedback and a final score
Flashcards: Two-sided cards learners work through at their own pace
Sorting game: Items learners drag or move into the correct category
Scenario: A branching decision path with feedback at each step
Timeline: Key steps or events learners click to reveal, with a progress indicator
You select one of these five when you add the block. Thrive fills the prompt field with a starter prompt for that type, which you then edit to suit your topic.
Note:
For more information, see Using the Pre-Set Prompts below.
Adding a Magic Block
In Page builder, under Add a block (or Add your first block if the page is empty), select Magic.

In Describe an interactive experience , select the kind of interaction you want: Quiz, Flashcards, Sorting game, Scenario, or Timeline.

Edit the prompt that appears in the field below. Replace the highlighted topic with your own, and change anything else you need, such as the number of questions or how a learner finishes it.

(Optional) Use the second field to say who the interaction is for, such as new starters or a specific team.
Click Generate.
Thrive writes the code for your interaction. You'll see it appear in the block as it's written, under Working my magic..., alongside a timer showing how long it has been working. To cancel, click Stop.

When the block appears, you can try the interaction in the preview to test it. Refine the result if necessary, then save the draft or publish it.
When published, learners can interact with the Magic block directly in the Space, alongside any other blocks.
Writing a Good Prompt
The clearer your prompt, the closer the first version will be. A strong prompt covers three things:
The interaction: What kind of activity it is, such as a quiz, a sorting game, or a timeline
The topic: What the content is about
The finish: How a learner completes it, such as a final score, a completion message, or every point viewed
Use the optional audience field to shape tone and difficulty. It's the difference between a scenario written for new starters and one written for experienced managers.
Refining Your Block
You don't need to start again if the first version isn't quite right. Under the preview, you can:
Make a quick change: Select More questions, Make it harder, Make it easier, Add a timer, or Simpler language.
Ask for something specific: Describe the change you want in the Ask for a change... field.
Start over: Click Retry to generate a fresh version from your original prompt.
Edit the code: Click Edit code to change the generated code directly.
Each change creates a new version. Use the version tabs – v1, v2, v3, and so on – to compare versions and go back to an earlier one.

Things to Keep in Mind
Interactions are self-contained. A Magic block can't pull in live data or connect to other systems.
Progress isn't saved. A learner's answers and score exist only while they're using the block. Closing it resets the interaction.
Completion isn't tracked. Use a Magic block to add engagement to your content, not to record results or scores.
Check the output. Test the interaction, read the content, and confirm any facts before you publish.
