Non-Email Users Overview

Prev Next

In certain organisations, some staff may not have access to an email address, either due to the nature of their job or because they don't require one for communication. These non-email users were previously unable to access training and information through Thrive. To address this, we’ve introduced functionality that allows non-email users to authenticate and access the platform via desktop and/or mobile devices.

You can create non-email users in the following ways:

  • Individually via the Manage User page.

  • In bulk through a CSV upload on the Upload Users page.

  • Via webhook integration.

To create a non-email user, the ref field must be populated, as this will serve as their username. This ensures the user can authenticate and log in.

Note:

For more information, see How to create non-email users in Thrive Tribe.

Once non-email users are created, they can authenticate via an activation link. A Super Admin or a direct/indirect manager can generate this link, which will either be sent to the user or presented as a QR code for easy scanning. Once activated, the user can set their password and gain access to Thrive.

What’s the difference between 'ref' and 'Username'?
The term "Username" is a generic term used at login, encompassing both email and "ref" (manual logins). "Ref" is used as a unique identifier for non-email users.

Can you have a mix of users logging in via SSO, email, password, and non-email on the same tenant?
Yes, Thrive supports a mix of login methods.

Can an admin use a CSV to upload multiple non-email users?
Yes, the CSV uploader includes a new field, loginMethod, allowing admins to specify the login method for each user.

Can a CSV have both an email and a ref for a user?
Yes, but only one can be used for login - either email or ref, not both.

Where does the QR code take me on mobile?
The QR code opens the app if installed. If the app is not installed, it will redirect the user to the appropriate app store (Apple/Google) for download.

Who can generate activation links for non-email users?
Super admins and direct/non-direct managers (if allowed).
