Goals are a structured way for users or their managers to define, track, and achieve specific learning and development targets in Thrive. Each goal is linked to one or more Skills, giving both managers and employees a clear, measurable way to connect learning activity to real development outcomes.
This page outlines how line managers can create Goals for their direct reports to support their development journey. As a manager, you can set goals that are specific, measurable, and aligned with your team's objectives.
Note:
To create Goals for your own personal development, see Creating a Goal.

Type a goal title (for example, “Complete Project Management Course”).
Add a Skill from the list of available skills on your platform that this goal will help your direct report develop.
Add a Due date for the goal.
If needed, add a detailed description for the goal.
In the People tab, click Add people to find and select your direct report.
In the Tasks tab, add the tasks your direct report needs to complete to achieve the goal:
Click + Add a task.
Type a task title (for example, “Enrol in Course”) and, optionally, a description.
Select one of of the following task types:
Basic task: You can optionally require evidence to be submitted by the direct report or manager approval for this task to be marked complete.
Content task: You must select a specific piece of content from Thrive to complete to fulfil the task.
Click Add task.
The task will appear on your list.
If necessary, click + Add a task again to add more tasks.
Once all tasks are added, click Confirm.
The goal is now created and an email notification has been sent. Your direct report can view and begin working towards the goal, which is visible under Personal goals in their Goals: My learning screen.
Editing and Deleting Direct Reports’ Goals
To edit and delete the goals you’ve set for your direct reports, in the Thrive menu, go to Manage > Goals.
A list of all goals assigned to your direct reports will be displayed.
To edit or delete a goal, click the ⋮ icon and select Edit goal or Delete goal.
You can add more personal goals by clicking + Add a goal.
Goals and Mentoring
Because goals in Thrive are linked to skills, they can influence more than just individual learning. If your organisation uses Mentoring, the skills associated with a mentee's goals are used to find the best mentor match – prioritising mentors with stronger proficiency in those goal-related skills.
This means the goals you set for your direct reports can directly shape the quality and relevance of their mentoring relationships. The more accurately a goal reflects what someone wants to develop, the better their match is likely to be.
