Content Engagement

Prev Next

The Content Engagement page helps content collaborators understand how learners are interacting with their content — including viewing behaviour, bounce rates, popular content types, trending topics, and detailed engagement activity for every content item.

It provides a clear picture of which content is performing well, which items may require optimisation, and what themes learners are gravitating toward.

This page is designed to help you improve content quality, increase engagement, and make informed decisions about future content creation and promotion.

Visuals have a maximum lag of 6 hours, typically significantly less.

Filters

Use the filters at the top of the page to refine the dataset:

  • Collaboration Name — pre-filtered to your collaboration(s); use this to focus on content from one specific collaboration

  • Author — analyse viewer behaviour and engagement for content created by specific individuals

  • Content Title / Content Type / Content Tag — drill into particular content items, content formats, or tagged themes

  • Deleted = false / Archived = false / Published = true — only active, visible content items are shown by default

  • Activity Date — pre-filtered to the last 30 complete days to ensure optimal performance

  • Thrive Role != administrator — excludes administrator interactions to display true learner behaviour

These filters allow you to isolate the engagement trends and content consumption patterns most relevant to your team.

Visuals

What You Need to Know

This panel provides important context on how engagement metrics work:

  • Bounce rate measures the % of views that lasted less than 10 seconds

  • Pathways do not contribute to bounce rate (they naturally inflate bounce due to containing embedded content)

  • “Mixed content” refers to items created using Thrive’s AI content creator

  • Viewing duration is measured in minutes

  • Additional dataset information is available in the data dictionary

  • Export frequency should be limited for performance

Top Tips

Helpful insights for making the most of this page:

  • Use the Trending topics visual to guide upcoming campaigns or spotlight areas where learners want more content

  • Review content with high bounce rates:

    • Is the title misleading?

    • Is the opening unclear?

    • Is the description missing or outdated?

  • Identify under-performing content types to support content creators with targeted improvements

  • Combine Content Engagement insights with “How was my content found?” on the Overview page to create a promotion strategy

How long is my content viewed?

Shows the average viewing time (in minutes) for all content within your selected filters.

This helps you understand:

  • whether content is being meaningfully consumed

  • whether long-form items retain attention

  • whether particular content types perform differently

Average bounce rate of content

Displays the percentage of content views that lasted less than 10 seconds.

A high bounce rate can indicate:

  • unclear or misleading titles/descriptions

  • poor relevance to your learners

  • content that loads slowly or has broken elements

What are my most popular content types?

A bar chart showing which content formats generate the most engagement — for example:

  • file

  • pathway

  • mixed

  • URL

  • article

  • elearning

  • video

  • quiz

  • event

  • broadcast

  • question

How to use this visual:

  • Identify which formats your learners prefer

  • Balance your content strategy — e.g., create more video if video performs well

  • Review engagement for low-volume or low-engagement formats

What are the trending topics in my content?

A bar chart showing which content tags (topics) generate the highest number of learner interactions.

How to use this visual:

  • Identify high-interest themes for future content creation

  • Support targeted communication or campaigns

  • Validate whether your tagging strategy helps surface relevant content
