What are skill levels?

Skill levels help learners track their progress and development in specific skills.

This functionality allows users to:

  • Set and achieve skill level targets.

  • Progress through predefined skill levels.

  • Configure skill levels to align with learning goals.

Note:

Only super admins can configure skill levels.

  1. On the Thrive menu, go to Configure > Skills.

  2. Toggle Enabled on and click Save.

  3. In Skill levels, enable the following options as needed:

    • Allow managers to set skill level: Enable this to allow managers to set users’ current skill levels.

    • Allow users to set own skill level: If the above is enabled, enable this to let users set their own current skill level.

    • Allow managers to set desired skill level: Enable this to allow managers to set users’ desired skill levels (the level they aim to reach).

    • Allow users to set desired skill level: If the above is enabled, enable this to let users set their own desired skill level as a personal development .

  4. In Number of Levels, set up to 10 skill levels for users to achieve. You can also rename these levels if needed. By default, the levels are Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.

  5. Click Save.

The skill levels are now assigned.

  1. You can see this in action by navigating into your 'Learn Profile' via the 'Learn' tab within the side navigation bar.

  2. Here you can see the skill 'Customer Success' doesn't have a 'Current Level' or 'Target Level' to set this, click into the skill.

  3. This will show a banner asking if you want to set a target level, if we click into "Set target level".

  4. This will allow us to use the slider to set our 'Current Level'

  5. and a 'Target Level'.

  6. Click "SAVE".

You can now see the information we entered using the sliders now reflects within that 'Customer Success' skill.

  1. Can I see what other users have been doing to increase their skill levels?
    Yes, you can view their activity feed on their profile page. You can also filter the feed to display skill-specific activity.

  2. Can I change the names of skill levels after the initial setup?
    Yes, Super Admins can modify skill level names in the Skill Level Configuration dashboard.

  3. Can I add more global skill levels after the initial setup?
    Yes, skill levels can be reconfigured at any time.

  4. What is skill levelling?
    Skill levelling allows users to set a target level for a skill they are working towards. This feature must be enabled by a Super Admin.

  5. Can skill levels be different for each skill?
    No, skill levels are global settings across all skills. However, skill progress is tracked individually for each skill.

  6. What happens if skill progression is turned off?
    If skill progression is disabled, skill levels will no longer be displayed. No data is lost, and if skill progression is re-enabled, all previously recorded skill progression will be restored.

  7. How can I level up my skills?
    You can level up your skills by completing configured to boost skills. Depending on permissions, either the learner or their manager can manually update and set a skill level.
